Brunswick Bouldering Wall

The push for a Brunswick bouldering wall has been extremely positive so far and hopefully the Wilson St project (which has been recently in the media - see below) will happen. However like climbing there's no harm in placing another bit of gear in case the other one fails.

Moreland council are looking for suggestions for Fleming park. If you have 3 minutes please follow the link to the survey and request a bouldering wall. Who knows? We may get both...

Take the survey here

Now that article is a new take on safetyising climbing to help a high risk community.

Burnley Wall- an open air free public bouldering facility in the inner east of Melbourne. Part funded by VCC and Transurban.

Here's a wider shot from the Burnley Bouldering Wall Page on Facebook:

There's another dead vertical wall on the other side of the right wall. This was taken part way through the last reset; I imagine there's more on the walls now.

$200k seems quite alot for a bouldering wall however.

These are not just a few bits of 2/4. Although that would probably do the trick for a few years.

Maybe but the Burnley bouldering wall was a totally different project and totally volunteer driven, donated materials etc. It was a huge amount of time and energy to get the wall done. If you factor in all the costs of getting this done through design, labour, materials, permits etc you are looking at a fair bit of dosh. It's not sustainable to expect that all similar walls and projects will and can be done like the Burnley one. These kind of projects are in councils recreation budgets as well as them also being eligible for grants such as the crime prevention one. And these kind of projects have been shown to help curb some criminal activities.

And they have to do the extra engineering to allow M75 to hang his porta-ledge from it.

Burnley wall was designed to be flood proof!

That surprises me a bit, given the reduction of flow area available for floods.

Thanks for the thought Kieran. Last time I bivied at Burnley it was pretty epic. Had the ledge hanging off two equalized hooks and a dodgy pecker... 'twas a worrisome nights sleep;)

Me too, I've spied a great spot in mascot for a wall. In a sport/recreation park where there is a great (brand new) kids play ground, basketball court and footy pitches. Plus the council have a huge depot building backing on to the space with two very large and blank walls. Its easy to park, surprisingly central - just off southern cross drive, M5. Who's keen to pursue?

How does an urban bouldering wall compare to this?

Heh, heh, heh.

~> Btw; I filled in the survey (as I am not biased), although I am never likely to use it if it eventuates!
