I'm unsure of the author or the climb he was talking about quite disdainfully, I overheard it late one evening in the Nati Pub in the early eighties.

"superb umbly" genus; gymasium wankersaurus. Mythical creature now found in abundance due to the creation of artificial environs in the CBD, Nunawading & Altona. Often in the company of it's progeny, it is relegated to the task of belay bitch for extended periods of time. Recognisable features include pattern baldness and thickening waistline. Yearns to visit the crag environment more often in order to return to its natural state of "umbly", but can't because it's wife/boss/mortgage/responsibilities won't let him.

"Umbly" : genus; dinosaur traditionalus, a shy and retiring creature, with little or no desire to climb anything harder than a grade 19. Spent most of the eighties and early nineties staring in awe at feats of strength and endurance of the New Wave. Can be recognised by its oversized rack and the sound of its Bumbly Bells.

When at Araps walking past squeeze boulder in the late evening, over heard the following...

' NNNK Sh*t! Dude um.... its like birth all overagain... Darkness.... Tight sapce... A strange light blinding me...... and..... I'm um... stuck.... Do me a favour..... Grab the forceps, a leg and start pulling.....'

"Stop thinking of those foot-hold things as poos."

There was an accompanying cartoon as well, but since I don't have the copyright I haven't reproduced it here.

I know it's not about climbing but it's funny.

Comfort is always more fun than pain, unless you've been to that little club downtown where . . . but that's another story.

C'mon it doesn't really matter - that's half the beauty of it . . .
Like Homer said 'It works on so many levels' . . .
