THREE times this week, for some unknown reason, climbing rope has come in handy.
I live in Portland (USA. Not the lovely south west vic town ...) where everything gets stolen. I rode my bicycle to the store only to realise I didnt have my bike lock. For some reason I had some prussick cord in my jacket pocket which I used to tie the bike to a rack.
Came out, my bike was still there. However, my headlight that I left on had been stolen. I have no doubt in my mind that had my bike not been tied up with 1000 knots, it woulda been taken too.
Two other times:
When I went camping and forgot to take a dog leash, the cord came in handy then too.
When my friends car got rear-ended and I used the cord to tie the boot lid down to stop it flapping about.
Thank you bogong.

In the Solomon Islands, they just steal the rope. Lost one of my 8mm twins (being used to tie down a tarp over band equipment on the back of my truck) because it was just too tasty.

* I've towed a car with an old off cut from a climbing rope.
* I've tied stuff onto the trailer.
* I've built haul systems in the yard to move trees.
* I've improvised a leash for a stray dog.
* I've used off cuts as a long line for running the dogs (I've also used an old bit of slackline webbing for this too)

One time me and my wife couldn't find any stockings so we just grabbed some old climbing rope and... hang on, are there any kids on this forum?

You'll just have to explain what a fanbelt is as well. You were talking about a bodge repair to the car weren't you?

They have big fish over there so an 8mm ought to be sufficient to reel them in...
;-)
Lotsa threads with snippets of alternative uses of climbing ropes on Chocky.
I once made a successful donkey fence out of a retired static caving rope, but this pales into insignificance besides mikl's mat weaving affairs to save getting dirt past the doors into his house.
