Just heard on the news update so searched and found the following....

http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/man-critical-after-rockclimbing-fall-at-mount-arapiles-20170311-guw1p2.html

Any further details?

A man is in a critical condition after a rock-climbing accident in the state's west on Saturday.

Ambulance Victoria spokesman John Mullen said paramedics were called to Mount Arapiles about 12.54pm after a man in his seventies fell.

"He's fallen about three metres onto a ledge, which was about 30 metres above the ground," Mr Mullen said.

"They've had to rescue him and bring him down to ground level."

The man was being flown to Melbourne in a critical condition.

He was on either Phoenix or The Eighth not sure which. Not much else I can add except hope for the best for him.

That has to limit the pool of people a bit - anybody we know?

You'd have to be unlucky to be in critical condition after a three metre fall. :-(

Oh yeah? Ask Bryden Allen how lucky he felt when he slipped onto his bum from less than 3 metres or ask anyone who has fallen off a ladder and ended up with critical head injuries! Sympathies to the person! Hope he recovers quickly. Apparently from South Australia.

Talking to people in Nati this morning, local climbers saw the man fall and estimated 8-10 metre fall. It was on Phoenix.

I didn't say it was impossible, I just said you'd have to be unlucky. And you would! But 8-10 metres makes a lot more sense. (The papers today were reporting a 30 metre fall!) The papers were also reporting the person was from Adelaide.

A three meter is classified as time critical for anyone depending on the way they fall and co morbidities. In case, being 70 years old, a fall from standing height could be fatal. Bones aremail far more brittle.

Hope theverything dude is ok

Imperial/metric confusion strikes again. Hope the climber makes a full recovery.

Having had the misfortune of spending time in a spinal ward, I shared a room with a guy who was a quadraplegic after falling over his vacuum cleaner. Meanwhile people have fallen out of planes and walked away. Luck can be a bastard
