Recommend a physio in Melbourne

Can anyone recommend a good physio for shoulder-related problems in Melbourne, preferably not too far from the city? I'd prefer someone with experience treating climbers or at least gymnasts as I've had mixed success with general physios in the past.

I see a fellow named John Wilson at Wilson physio group in Balwyn. He is a shoulder specialist and i with him after recent shoulder surgery. He's pretty good, comes highly recomended and is doing wonders to bring my shoulder back so i will be climbing again.

He can be hard to get into see and you may wait a week but i reckon he's worth it.

Good luck, what have you done?

I used to see David Moriarty at Physiohealth in Essendon before I moved out of Melbourne. He has worked with Olympic swimmers so I figure he probably understands shoulders pretty well.

Simon Balster at Life Care Parhran sports medicine. He is the shoulder guy!
He is very busy though and hard to see.
But he has treated a lot of climbers shoulders

Thanks, that's a good start and gives me some names to chase up,

I've now dislocated my shoulder three times climbing and kayaking, and subluxed while lying in bed...

I'm going to check out the surgical options as well, so also after recommended sports physicians and surgeons?

I got shoulder surgery done by John Salmon, and he was good, but if you have the time to wait, I'd definatley go for Greg Hoy. You'll be waiting a bit to see him but he is excellent. And yep, Simon Balster or Lynn Watson at Lifecare Prahran only treat shoulders, and Simon has treated at least 7 climbers, just that I know of.
Good luck!

Shoulder instability simplistically falls into three categories. 1.Purely traumatic which tends to require surgery for the very active but not always.2.Spontaneous, on background of multi-directional ligament laxity, tends to do well with physio rather than surgery, but not always. 3. Traumatic on background of multidirectional laxity/instability, which is the real shitter.
I can vouch for Lyn Watson, she has been the leading shoulder specialist/educator for the past two decades, if not longer.

Thanks to everyone for the recommendations.

I've ended up seeing Simon Balster for a few sessions now and have been very happy with his expertise. He's a specialist for shoulders, and in his own words, if you're a specialist you better be good at what you do because that's all you do.

I've also now booked an appointment to see Greg Hoy. Word of warning - I've got a three month wait just to get in the door for an initial consultation!
