Just been up to Darwin and checked out the dripstone cliffs at the Nightcliff and Casuarina foreshores.

Seems like pretty reasonable rock in a stunning location, anyone know of limitations (i.e. cultural) on bouldering in this area or of any previous development?

I had a boulder on some amazing purple and yellow rock up at Nightcliff recently - is that the stuff you're
taling about? Quite fun but a bit slick/sharp/loose.. almost better to look at.

When I was living in Darwin as a kid, we used to ride our bikes out to East Point and muck about on the cliffs out there. When the tide was out we would generally just throw rocks at each other or try and capture the other teams base which was usually the "Rock Sitters Rock". No one ever got hurt (go figure) that I can remember anyway. Or rather no one would admit to thier mates they were hurt. The best part about it was when the tide came in. As you will know the tide in Darwin ranges metres. We would climb the cliffs here, the general idea was to be the first to the top.....no holds bared. We would kick, punch, tickle, tackle whatever it took to get the other guys to fall off into the sea below. I guess the cliff at East Point is about 8m+ high. When we got to the top we would leap of the cliff into the sea from a special diving rock which over hung the cliff below.This was all in the late seventies. Ahhhhhhhh those where the days.

I guess looking back on it you would call it Deep Water Soloing.

Yeah pretty much, the rock was better along the Casuarina foreshore than at Nightcliff. Don't think it'll ever be an international destination be its not bad to go and check out for a few hours.

Yeah, cas sea cliffs are good fun from time to time, they are very loose in bits though... combines well with a late arvo walk on the beach.

Some very good bouldering to be had, posted some pics from arouund adelaide river, at http://dihedral.bigblog.com.au , may be the same ones Andrew has bouldered?
