Lysterfield Park granite boulder field

Hi

I recenly moved to the Dandenong ranges and found a field of (smallish) granite boulders NE Lysterfield Lake Park, near the junction of Lysterfield and Wellington roads.

You can clearly see them on this Google Sat image:
https://maps.google.com.au/maps?q=lysterfield+lake&ie=UTF-8&ei=UKjPUaShN4P1iQfZ_oDwDQ&sqi=2&ved=0CAgQ_AUoAg

Half the boulders are on open access land but (bigger + better) half appear to be on private land. Before I start tracking down the landowner to ask permission, does anyone know of an existing access agreement? Has anyone done any problems there? Regular users? I've heard there might even be a topo?

If so, please get in touch.
Thanks
Martin

The deal is this. If there is any livestock in the paddock then stay out. Otherwise ok, if someone comes up to you, be friendly.

It's all pretty much flakey choss - even the stuff in the paddock.

Sounds like normal bouldering to me, which is why ropes are better whenever any decent height is involved.

It's been many years since I went out there, but I do remember it being a fun few hours of climbing diversion on generally good granite in a fantastic setting * (high on the hill). The boulders over the fence had a couple of good problems, including some V-Hard stuff that Martin Lama has done (it must be well more than a decade since Martin promised his mythical Melbourne bouldering guide....)

* for Melbourne. Interstaters and internationals need not apply.

Hmm.

Various chapters for areas such as Lysterfield are complete Neil - not sure though if I prefer it to be left for people to just enjoy the exploration rather than publish. Also with the better problems IMO on the private property I am not keen on encouraging people to go there.

How many times have climbing spots on private land closed due to a few inconsiderate people? With Melbourne being so rock starved, if even just one place no matter how average was closed it would be a big loss!

The land owners were approached many years ago and were okay for us to climb on their land. As long as we kept out when stock was in the paddock. And other common sense things like not damaging fences, don't litter, no fires...

That arete is a very nice line - definitely feels higher than it looks. Harder problems were done M9 - up to V7. Still not hard but hard enough for an old bloke like me. :-)

Although I still pine for her, having a car that I am not worried over every noise as another roadside breakdown does make driving a little more enjoyable!
