Climbing Wall Information

As some of the Bendigo locals may know, Y-Rock is looking to upgrade the indoor climbing wall. There has been a general go ahead given, with plans needing to be drawn up. To aid in this, I am looking for any information about wall builders. I can't find any links on the net and was hoping that people here may have some ideas. I have contacted Hardrock and Cliffhanger for information.

Also I would like to hear any suggests that people have about what should be include in the new gym.

Thanks,

Drew

From classified in rock, though this will probably be the same details from Hardrock and Cliffhanger as they have done work at both centres.

As a frequent climber at Y-Rock, it's great to hear that some extensions and improvments are in the pipeline.

The only suggestion I would make is that the current walls could be better utilised with more frequent route setting. Some walls have not been changed in over a year & it can get just a tad boring when you visit every week or so :-)

Keep up the good work though, it's great to have such a handy & ecconomical place to train only 10 minutes from work.

PS a few of us are heading to Dog Rocks after work tomorrow (wednesday) if any other locals are interested.

Hey, do you reckon they would let climbers do some route setting? From the brief converstions I have had with route-setters, they say it realy makes you think about different types of moves - sounds like a great way to exersize those nerons in head which contain all those climbing sequences, that make you climb so well on the days they flow, but in a different way to phyiscally climibing.

Most likely a WorkCover issue having volunteers doing what is classified as a 'high risk job' working on ropes, plus the PLI issues of dropping a hold from a great height onto someone or something!

Just my opnion, I konow we are not permitted to allow volunteers to route set or instruct.

When a few of us offered to do some route setting at Y-rock a few months back, the insurance/liability issue was given as the reason behind a polite refusal.

It is unfortunate that the current (or perceived) litigation climate seems to exclude willing volunteers from donating there time and effort in all sorts of situations, not just climbing gyms. As a Joe Public, you can't even supply a drink & a sandwich to a weary fire fighter unless you have a fully liscensed and accredited kitchen. It's all rather OTT in my humble opinion :-|

Hey Tim, I clearly remember sitting in Cliffhanger late one Sunday evening about a decade ago. Your dad bought in heaps of pizzas to feed us all after we had been route setting for the afternoon. Those was the days..........

Hi Alison,

and you know it was almost 10 years to the day! I think it was the 20th of April 1993.

Those were the days!!!!

Yep, also much like the "CliffCare" initiative (esp. in the Blue Mountains, NSW).

Hey, thanks for all the help with the looking.

As for the route setting issue, the last Thursday of each month had been set aside for the public to help with setting. There are signs in the gym, and the Thursday night staff are happy to help you create new and challenging routes.

Yeah I know all about the Thursday night route setting. Only problem is, neither me nor my climbing partener can ever get there on Thursdays.

Now if it was a Monday, a Tuesday or even a Wednesday .......................
