In my experience, rope signals are problematic. They are difficult to detect where there is rope drag in the system, they can be confusing when there is a lot of rope between you and the belayer and they are also pretty ineffective when the rope is weighted. My system just consists of a series of tugs on the rope to mean different things. What system do you use?
