McEwings (www.mcewings.co.nz?) and Bivouac (no website) are both on the main mall in central christchurch. These seemed to me to be the best equiped ones.
Mtn Designs, High Country, Kathmandu and Mainland are four camping stores within 2 blocks of the mall area, but I don't recall these stocking any climbing gear.
There could be others that are better, but these are all I found last trip.

I just spent a few days in Christchurch stocking up on supplies and climbing gear, and I must say that "Mainland Great Outdoor Centre" was one of the best stocked in terms of climbing and general camping gear ...whilst McEwing was good, Mainland was way cheaper and the staff were super friendly and really know what they talk about specially back-country and alpine gear needs...we bought some climbing bits and pieces and they were quite cheap and stock well-known brands....just head to the very back of the shop where all the climbing/alpine stuff is, it isn't obvious from the street entrance. Mainland is at Lichfield Street, a couple of blocks south of the main Christchurch centre.
