It's not just climbers...

It would appear it's not just climbers being unprepared for their great adventure;

Here's hoping they're found safe and well by not too grumpy rescue personal;)

Latest reports suggest the hikers spent the night in a cave and have managed to send GPS coordinates to the police.

Kind of odd that there are so many well-trodden tracks around there and they seemed to have some sort of mapping ability on their phones. Would be interesting to see where they went wrong.

I seriously do not know how someone gets lost in that area

I would suggest that SAR events for unprepared walkers is far far more common that SAR events for climbers. Though that doesn't mean we as a community should not try to educate newer members to prevent gumby-itis.

Regarding getting lost. Some people have absolutely no navigational skills in cities streets let alone in the bush. Once the path is lost they could move in completely the wrong direction for hours without knowing it. Or they could simply walk in circles. Never underestimate the incompetence of most people.

It's roughly the same place that Jamie Neal went missing for several days a few years back. The terrain around there is actually pretty complex once you miss the track. If you have no sense of direction (or common sense) you could be completely bamboozled.
