A friend of mine has suggested I have a lesson in lead climbing. What is available at Arapiles and how much does it cost for a half a day or so?

you might want to book a full day or possibly more to maximise your learnings...
Depending on your current experience, the lessons for the first half of a lead climbing day may not even require you to wear a harness! eg if you've never used trad gear before theres a few hours of learning that and then learning how to build and equalise a 3 point belay.
Even if you have some experience with trad gear it is quite common for a beginner trad leader to take an hour or more on a single pitch.
It would be well worthwhile to book in a full day with one of the climbing schools down in Nati, and see how you are going after that day.
Remember, the first year of lead climbing is the sketchiest of your life!

No idea what it costs, but there's a bunch of companies that do it.

There's probably more, but google could help there.
