LGBTI climbing network for women

Hey all,

Not sure if this is the best forum, but I have just recently started a networking group for women (gay/ lesbian/ bi/ queer etc) who are interested in climbing. It’s called “Les’ Trad Women’s Climbing Group” through meetup.com. There's no fee attached to join the group or anything like that; my goal is purely to network/ connect and socialise with other similarly minded women who are also keen on climbing.

The aim is for it to be pretty open to women of all walks and levels of experience, and once there are a few more members, I will be able to start organising some women's nights at one of the Sydney gyms (e.g. St Peters), including dinner/ drinks etc so we can have a chance to get to socialise as a group as well. I’d like to tee up some outdoor climbs too, down the track (as well as other similar adventures, such as abseiling and tree climbing).

So if you are interested in joining, or have any friends who might be interested, I would really appreciate the chance to get the word out!

There's a similar group running in Melbourne called Lesrock: http://lesrock.wordpress.com/

Andrew, how did you know about a group for climbing dykes in Melbourne and I didn't????

I'm up for climbing with you girls if you make a trip down to Araps, send me a PM if you are coming down this way.

They had posters up on the notice boards at Lactic Factory and Hardrock CBD. That's how I found the other Melbourne Climbing meetup group too.

Is there any particular reason you'd know more about such a topic than Andrew would?

Les Rock advertises at the Hardrock city climbing gym and climbs there on Mondays. Les Rock isn't exclusively dykes as they have used to have a token straight guy and a token straight girl (not a couple). I say used to because the straight girl has moved cities, I'm not sure if the guy is still a member.

I'm confused. Does that mean gay/lesbian/bi/queer women who don't climb trad are going to be alienated? Gay sport climbers have it tough.

Hi Wendy, I know a few people from the Lesrock group and they have a trip planned for weekend 7-9 February. Their web page indicates that they are heading for the Grampians but I was chatting yesterday and as a result of the fires I understand that this trip is now to Arapilies. I suggest you get in touch with them if interested.
