State of Barrenjoey after the fires?

Hi guys,

Just wondering what the state of the Barrenjoey crag is after the fires? We are planning on a trip tomorrow and wanted to know if there is anything we should look out for or be aware of such as damaged or loose RBs etc etc)

From a distance the south west crag looks OK but up close it is very burnt. There is soot on most of the walls and it will take a few rainstorms to wash off. It will also be fairly hard to avoid getting yourself and your gear covered in black ash. As for the bolts, who knows.

If you go please be mindful where you tread and try to avoid disturbing too much soil as there is next to no ground cover. Also please do not dump your pack or sit on the emerging regrowth (unless its asparagras fern). It would be really uncool to take a large group there right now.

Here's some photos from the works day yesterday, of fire damage to rock on the north side of the headland. None of this is in a climbing area but it's interesting to see.

The upper cliffline at Barrenjoey seems to have many 'crispy' thin onion flakes, seems very delicate for Hawksbury sandstone. These are what you see exfoliated off.

Also went for a down the right hand side of the Southwest crag to find the "Barrenjoey Hilton" bivvy cave. I feel a little guilty but this area actually was less affected by the fires compared to the main area.

Full of old trash. Seems to have been used by fisherman and others, there's an outboard motor in there!

"Zodiacs Pure Vegetables" 22, I think. Single manky carrot next to RP seam. Reclaimed by moss.

"Great Roof Left Hand Eliminate" 18? Top roped by Mike Garben ten years ago.
