Really, I'm not against basic fees, but FFS, Boonah caravan park costs $8. Hayes Creek caravan park $10. Nowra animal park $10, Camp 4, $5. You could get a whole crowd into MT Zero log cabins for $60, or a site for 2 at almost any caravan park in the country for less than $25. I think the Araps fee for basic campgrounds is reasonable and much as it pains me to have to pay for 4 people when there are only 2 at Buffalo, it's not unreasonable as it is. If they want to carry on about user pays, I also find it difficult in somewhere say like Frog, where you don't have to pay as a day visitor for almost as much use of the services. Charging $50 for Buffalo? $40 for Grampians? What planet are these guys on? I'm also curious as to where all these free campgrounds with Park maintained facilities are. I'm struggling to think of a single free (and authorised) parks campsite with any facilities or maintanance. They suggested Wyperfield. I bet that's a busy campground and Parks would love to have to police it for fees.

This does seem a bit crazy if it's true, isn't a hostel in the middle of a city about the same price ($50)?

If this is the result of scrapping the parks entry fee, then it sucks arse.

Why should overnight users be the only ones paying for parks maintenance. Day visitors crap into toilets too!

That is exorbitantly expensive, and will result in climbers (generally dirtbag like people) finding ways to bend the rules, eg bush camping, which will lead to increased wear and tear in locales without the infrastructure to deal with it (particularly poorly buried shit).

Had a bit of a taste of where this could end up as I camped at Cape Conran in East Gippsland last week and the potential model for PV. Had to pay $33.50 for a camp site! In the same camp ground there was a full time PV type warden, cabins and "Nature Retreats" (aka cabins covered in huge tens) both at a cost of $180 per night.

Great location, clean toilets, etc etc but expensive and obviously a self funding model.
