the other week i bought a new toy for my bike - one of those speedo/odo things that run off a magnet on the spokes on the front wheel. Long story short it turns out that every time I ride past the corner of coppin st and Bridge Rd the thing goes nuts and adds on about 1.5km in less than 50m of riding.

There is clearly something magnetic going on there - anyone know what it actually is? I'm thinking trams, but then all of bridge rd has tramlines and that is the only spot where the radar goes nuts.

thoughts anyone? and anyone know of other cycling bermuda triangles in melbs?

trams run on DC not AC power so they would have a constant magnetic field which is unlikely to upset your bike , ac however produce a variable 50 cps field so would be some how caused by that

That's so trippy Stu. It's one of the places in Melbourne that my dog trips out. Something kookie goin on. Another one up the top end of Smith st.

Might be worth walking around there with a compass and seeing what it does. You may be able to figure out roughly where the source is. Maybe the pick ups for the traffic lights are a bit odd or someone has wrapped electrical cable around a metal pole for some reason?

There's a corner on Cooack Road where the wind is always in your face as you go around it, no matter which direction your going.
