Victorian Climbing Legends

I was just interested as to who you think the great victorian climbing legends are? Of course there's HB but I think we overlook a lot of the great legends. To me, one of my great inspirations is Ross Taylor. He really is an amazing climber. Although most noted for impressing girls in the gym with his strength (and good style), he occasionally gets back to the old country where he rips it up and is quite the local celebrity around camp.
Here is a picture of him styling up some route in a dark gully at Mt. Arapiles.

I nominate local rock god Joe O'Connell. Everyone knows Joe.... ;-)

The list ought to be quite long.

In my opinion ANY of the 1st ascentionists from / in Victoria from WWII onwards (when climbing became a sport?) are Legends!

Some off the top of my head (still currently climbing) for these latter days would be;
HB (definitely)
Mike Law (now an expat?)
Chris Baxter
Steve Monks (does 6 month residence p.a. qualify?)
Louise Shepard
Keith Lockwood

Others (used to be residents)?
Kim Carrigan
Keith Bell ?

Current ...
Neil Monteith!
Kieran Loughran!!
Bill Andrews!!!

Hex-Troll will be in his element when he gets back from hols, researching this topic ...

Mark Moorhead
Glenn Tempest (r u still hanging about the forum Glenn?)
Kevin Lindorff
Jon Muir

Depends how you define "Victorian". Climbed in Vic? born in Vic? lived in Vic for any length of time? I'm also assuming you're talking about rock not alpine.

He ain coming back, but if he does, I eagerly anticipate his return (the force is strong in this one)

and Chris Peisker (top boke have met him a few times around the raps)
Lincoln and Chris Shepard
Gledhill bros
Mark Moorhead
I thought Ian "Humzoo" Thomas might have come from Victoria

The list is endless,
Each have made their mark
Come to play on the rock
Ravaged their tips, shoes and limbs
Spent blood
And Forgotten themselves in the creation
Of something possibly
Worthless

Seems like every Oz climbing legend who ever lived came from Vic... check the facts first people!

Easy tiger....Bad Damey hasn't made an appearance here in a few weeks...relax....(says while dipping toes into the boiling cauldron)

And of course we are all forgetting Garth Miller, responsible for some of the hardest routes in Oz in the mid-late 90's, and Mark Baker as well. Both originally hail form Vic

Think you may find that Garth is originally from the Southern Highlands (Bowral) area of NSW!

Ross is a wanker. He was probably hauling on the gear when you were at Red Rocks, Phil.
Couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding, that lad.
