Hi all

I have been meaning to get onto Chockstone to let you know that after 7 years of tireless service as Access Officer for the Sydney Rockies, Kevin Westren (Kuu) has passed the reins onto me. All was going well until this Monday when we found out about the Point Perpendicular renovations and the Dargan Creek Reserve Draft Plan of Management!

This draft Plan of Management will affect the Dams Cliffs, Cosmic County, the Railway Cliffs (are they in the new guide?) and the Freezer. Yes, it's an important one. Please do take the time to have a look and make a submission, even if it is only a short one. I'm still digesting the 101 pages, but the main points (for climbers) seem to be:

- "appropriate and sustainable climbing and canyoning" activities OK (Cliffcare code of conduct)
- bolting will require approval
- no explicit mention of authorised access to Cosmic and the Freezer
- allow commercial activities (for a fee)
- vehicles to be banned within the reserve
- no swimming

Public submissions can be made until 2 March 2012. Please make one!

In finishing my first post as the Sydney Rockies' Access Officer, I would like to publicly thank Kevin for his dedication to access issues over the past 7+ years.
