My favourite lead would have to be The Original Route on Mt Banks. 350m, grade 13.

There was no crimpin’ or crankin’ required but the journey was a lot of fun, especially seeing that one of the first ascensionists accompanied us on the overnight jaunt, 52 years after he first climbed it.

It was fine weather, the rock was good, the vertical bushwalking was fun, the company was excellent and the whole experience was brilliant.

Sadly the recent fires in the Grose seem to have fried the hell out of the place.

Just a few weeks before the conflagration four of us got to the base of the climb in driving rain, ready for a repeat. The rain refused to stop and we called it quits.
