End of the Month @ Djurite/Araps - AUGUST
Location: Mount Arapiles
Leader: Peter Upton
Details: Mt Arapilesin very late winter? Late winter cab provides good conditions for climbing at Arapiles. The flowering wattle and mint bush provide glimpses of spring! Enjoy the sunshine when it's there and of course the friction is still optimal. The warming sun's rays in the morning on the nearby classicsand well-worn trade routes in the Organ Pipes can be stunning in 'early spring'. Central Gully Left or the Northern Group provide a warm-up walk-in and some great single pitch routes. We will be camping in The Pines, close to the action. There is no better rock to fondle than the hard quartzite of Arapiles, so contact your Trip Leader, Peter Upton, to register your interest. These EOM@Djurite/Araps trips are intended for all levels of climbers, however Beginner spaces will be limited by the number of experienced leaders who come along. Dog Rocks & Wabbit Wocks, Mt Alexander
Location: Dog Rocks and Wabbit Wocks, Mount Alexander
Leader: Peter Upton
Details: Mount Alexander in Central Victoria offers a good range of granite climbing for Melbourians, usually escaping on day trips. But this Club trip comes with a difference - an opportunity to climb at two of the best crags in the area over a weekend. We'll be visiting Dog Rocks and Wabbit Wocks on alternate days and camping nearby. These two crags provide a mixture of classic granite slabs, aretes and cracks suitable for all levels of experience. Theres a variety of crack lines to get your jam on, whether you are new to crack climbing or after a challenge. Theres also slabs to slither up and a short but memorable arete to balance and slap your way up! There's some face climbing, and throw in a chimney and a corner for good measure. This trip will give you the opportunity to try a variety of climbing styles and maybe learn some new techniques or skills while youre at it. Climbing on granite always provides learning opportunities! This trip to Mt Alexander will provide climbing opportunities for all experience levels. Beginners are welcome on the trip, however beginner positions may be limited. It is essential to contact Peter prior to the trip to secure your place and get more information.   Photos: Trip Leader Peter Upton, Central Victorian Granite and Neil Monteith leading Braveheart (18) [Courtesy of Chockstone.org] [ More ]

Location: Mount Arapiles
Leader: Adam Merrick
Details: Join the VCC & WVCC in an enjoyable 'long weekend' of family climbing at Arapiles on the Grand Final 'Long Weekend'. Camping at Upper Gums, just north of the Pines Campground at Arapiles. We will visit a progression of cliffs for younger children, as well as more challenging cliffs for older teens and parents to enjoy. The trip leader has experience with progressing kids climbing and is keen to assist parents in finding and enjoying a variety of sites well suited to family climbing. Climbing will be top roping. We will set these top ropes up with the assistance of families. Your own climbing equipment will need to be provided. The minimum gear required is a rock-climbing helmet, harness, sling and carabiner.
