@M9. I understand the limitations regarding erasing all traces. But shouldn't a user be able to leave a forum and have there profile details erased? As a consumer I can sign up to an enewsletter or sms campaign, but I still have the ability to end the subscription. And yet Chockstone gives me no means of exit other than being "voted off the island".
I can cease logging in, but as a member are my details still accessible to the Chockstone community? I can select the appropriate boxes in my profile, but the mods still have access and should Chockstone be sold to a company whose business is sales or market research my details are by default available to the new "ownership".
If I resort to slanderous posts that get me booted from Chockstone are my details erased?
Is there provisions in place to protect my information from future moderators should I wish to no longer be involved with Chockstone?
Enquiring minds want to know.

You could just modify you profile and username etc, couldn't you?

OK, even though you are referring to your profile details and not just your posts, this is how I see it, though I am no computer guru.
Today's world is hyper-connected through computer technology and this trend is increasing at a rapid rate.
Computer use on the internet leaves a footprint.
Once it is out there it is irreversible as there is too much dissemination, harvesting of information, cache backups, etc, to effectively be able to 'retrieve' the footprint.
Ideologically I agree with you, but in practice I suspect that even if the Site Author killed off your footprint on the site, it is probably too late...
It might actually be easier to change your name in real life, or become a hacker and assume someone else’s identity, than retrieving your digital footprint; ... or it might be more fun to hunt down and kill rogue 'future moderators' for inappropriate use of your details?

Heh, heh, heh.

No user has ever been deleted on Chockstone. The banned user accounts (including spam) are just disabled - not deleted. The individual posts can manually be deleted one by one however.
If you don't want your opinion in the public sphere then don't post them on a forum. It's simple.
Your opinions expressed in the past may not be the same as your opinions now, but they are historically relevant, and in my opinion should not be erased. This is particularly important when people have replied to your opinions. If you delete your posts then it makes the reply an irrelevant orphan, which makes the forums useless for any research purposes.

Does this mean that these forums might actually have some use, no matter how slight?

That's at least one question answered. Can a user be deleted (old posts remaining or not)?

Exactly. But if I have a change of heart and no longer want to be involved in any way shape or form do I have a choice. I don't believe so. Shouldn't people be able to choose their level of involvement?

I don't think posts have to be removed, certainly don't believe I suggested that.

Whilst I do not think that I should be able to erase all traces of my involvement with Chockstone, I do believe that I should be able to cut ties with Chockstone should I choose to.

Its not that hard to cut ties - go to your user profile where the reset password is and type a whole bunch of random keys. and then logout. Also make sure to delete your contact email if you don't want the ability to get a password reminder in case your anti chocky resolve weakens.

yeah, this tactic works spectacularly well for Stugang. It keeps him clean for about 2 months, then his resolve weakens, he comes up with some new username and continues to waste his life.......until the next time his mrs cracks the shits and makes him quit!

Stugang had to die. After managing to cyber squat Eduardo's username everything seemed so hollow to him afterwards: after reaching such a pinnacle what was left for him to achieve? Besides he had to die in order not to get to 1000 posts and receive that sycophantic congratulations post from M9.
Useful is beginning to feel like that too - editing a mods post! You've gotta hand it to him.

You are still short of cutting the ice for a congrats post yet stunorriuseful+, ... as your tally combined is still only 947.

I will fill your forum with mindless musings and there is nothing you can do about it because the button to vote someone off DOES NOT WORK!
Try it, I DARE YA!!!

Close but no cigar Neil.
Isn't it unethical using your moderator rights to try to figure out who I am?

Not at all. If HEX has been banned several times in the past, and you pronounce you are HEX reborn - then logic says we should investigate the claim to see if the ban still stands.
