WTF?

Ummmm, first Hexy's Queensland bolting thing got locked, then the thread about him getting banned (which Hexy didn't even participate in) got locked. Why is banning people not up for public discussion?

I find the following logic a bit suss;

" A record number of Chockstone users voted to have this troll removed from the forum. If you combine
the number of votes that he has received under the different aliases he has used (Edward Sillypants etc),
then he has hundreds of ‘vote off’ votes to his name."

Each of his 10 personalities probably received 20 votes from the same 20 people who have 20 rods up their 20 arses.
This does not add up to hundreds of votes (unless you then concede to give each of his pesonalities a vote against others.....in which case I might generate a few aliases of my own and get rid of some people I don't like)

" Provoke away in your own little space all you
want, but please don’t disrupt the majority of users of this forum. We will continue to delete posts and
ban this user until they co-operate."

The majority of users on this forum seem to want to;

- get the beta on kachoong
- discuss which brand/size of wire is most useful
- write witty little poems about how N.S.W./Victoria/Queensland sucks
- try and link aid climbing to EVERY FARKIN TOPIC! (you know who you are)

Since all of the popular "serious" topics are now on lap 8 (and I've only been looking for four years) I would suggest that some disruption is warranted.

The ban stands. He has had repeated warnings (for years) and if he doesn't get the message then its just
too bad. Go and chat to him over at CragX if you enjoy his input. It looks like he needs the friends.

37 votes each actually. Considering those 37 voters are the core users of this forum then we have every
right to remove him.

Actually, as I predicted, his rantings were pretty much ignored on CragX and he seems to have taken his bat and gone home.

if we don't like him can't we just ignore him here too?

also over 200 people logged in today and its the same almost every day. In what way is 37 a majority?

Speaking as someone who DIDN'T Vote, but would have had I realised it was an option, I'm more than happy to see the stupidity and constant pointless irritating threat hijacking go away.

If you miss the stupidity, feel free to join one of the many thousands of forums on the internet that do nothing but that for your daily distraction. Better yet, make your own 'talk shit' climbing forum and go nuts. The value of chockstone for me was that it had a much better signal to noise ratio than most other climbing forums/newsgroups.

It's very nice to have Chockstone a little more sane. I suspect a lot of chockstone users feet the same way.

I think Chockstone is a more attractive target for him, as it is a much more dynamic forum, with a lot more active threads. He's a predator and as with all predators, he likes to be where there is lots of prey. If climbing forums were ecosystems, Chockstone would be a very productive one, a rainforest or a coral reef, where as CragX is more of a savannah grassland.

Also, I'm pretty sure he is Victorian or lives in Victoria now and knows lots of people who use Chockstone. It's often more fun to take the piss out of people you know. From his brief foray on CragX , I gathered he felt much less at home there and more like he was in the company of strangers. He seemed out of his comfort zone and lacking the bravado he usually displays here. His trolling didn't work there because basically no one there gives a shit.

Chockstone and CragX are very different forums. I like them both a lot but they are like chalk and cheese. You can post something on CragX and not get a reply for weeks, if at all. This makes it a pretty boring place for a troll to dwell. There are trolls there but generally everyone knows who they are; MR REDZONE appears now and then but everyone knows who it is and no one worries too much. Chockstone is the opposite, which makes it sweet troll heaven.

I know that by writing this piece of troll profiling I am setting myself up for a pasting but what's the worst that could happen? I've already made Fcukwit of the Week once. Maybe I'll get the quinella. Or I could simply stop logging in to both forums and go climbing instead. I think that's what it was originally supposed to be about, wasn't it?

maybe we could have "troll week" every month or two? Where every user gets a randomly generated
username & password they can use for one week to hang shit on everyone and everything.

For the other three weeks a month we can get to the real business of talking about the pros and cons of
cams v stoppers...glue v carrots v expansion bolt....and the self publicists wanting any excuse to tell us
how hard they are.

Was'nt that delightful post made by the same angry little man that has started this one?
I,ve just switched him off, I suggest you do the same, his little tantrums are pretty boring!
and have never added any real value or content, "more noise and less signal" I like that one.

No offence dude but where does it say Michael and whoever else puts the time and money into keeping this forum operational is doing so for the common good / community service? Surely it's up to them what goes on their forum? I mean it's just a web forum not parliament ... perspective?

200 users don't actually post on these forums daily. That's the difference. There is a suprisingly small
number of actual dedicated Chockstone regulars, and the 37 votes for his removal came from these
people.

How is this forum a dictatorship? There are 6 moderators (all who use this account id) - they come
from all over Oz, are different ages and even different sexes. None have a vested financial interest in
this site. They meerly attempt to maintain a discussion board with some semblance of civility.

We have only had real trouble with two users, who think its their right to stuff it up for everyone else.

It is interesting to see that the majority of people who want a free for all are usually not regular (daily)
users of this forum. When people have to wade through endless 24 hour trolling it really wears thin.

This is a climbing forum, suprising with a focus about climbing. The founder of Chocktone wanted to
create a friendly and informative space for climbing knowledge. That's the reason there are
discussions about gear choices, route beta ect. If it's all too repetitive for some users then maybe its
time to take up another sport - or try Crag X.

I totally agree with the mods removal of this person. He/she, could easily do what Mousey does and start their own thread and put all kinds of irreverent 'shite' in it ,as Mousey says. Then people would have the choice about their forum diet. BTW, I like the thread Mousey.
