Draws stolen from Grampians - Watchtower...

I guess this is more of a "hope you are reading this and know what a scumbag you are" than a word of warning, as we all know there are dirty mongrels out there who steel draws... But, draws were taken some time in the last week from My friend Flipper the 26 at the front of the Watchtower near Halls Gap. I supposed it's theoretically possible someone took them by accident in which case we'd love them back... Yeah right! Scumbags...

You might delicately check with Parks or (better) ask the guys at Absolute Outdoors in Halls Gap.
Isn't MFF in clear view of the walk in? Plenty of school groups around at times. Probably not such a great place to leave them.

The draws were there on Saturday afternoon when I was there, except for the first one.

BTW what's the etiquette on using draws left on a route? We climbed MFF on Saturday and used the draws that were left there. I figure if draws are left then it's fine to use them?

Depends on whether the second cleans them! ;-)

Thanks for that. Etiquette is definitely to use draws if they are left on a route!

Yeah, you may be right about them being in plain view of the track... It is only climbers and climbing groups that head there though. Parks would almost never head up there and most of the guys from absolute know us. I'm pretty sure we won't see those draws again.

So what is the etiquette with leaving draws on a route?
Surely they should be removed at the end of the day....
Whats the old saying - Take only photographs, leave only footprints.....
Whilst not condoning the theft, surely leaving them there for days is asking for trouble?

Etiquette varies in different climbing areas but it is generally accepted in the Grampians to leave draws on while you are actively working a route and they will be safely left alone. Clearly there is some thieving dog out here at the moment as I just had gear nicked off Contra arms pump at Sandanista last week as well!
Totally appreciate the leave no trace ethic but sport clinging has changed things a little in that regard and the draws at least are not permanent...

I wouldn't leave my draws hanging off a wall directly above one of the most popular walking tracks in the Grampians and expect them to be there when I got back.

I'm not saying I think it's ok that the draws were taken, just that I'm not surprised.
