I'll be presenting more about this topic at SICG, St Peters, Sydney if anyone's interested:
RopeLab on Climbing: Tue 20th Jan 2015, Sydney Indoor Climbing Gym, Australia. 6:30pm - 9:30pm, $55, bookings essential.
Following the interest shown at the Australian Climbing Festival and specific questions about the use of old gear we'll be presenting a 3 hour workshop is designed specifically for climbers. Richard will draw on real data gathered from RopeLab tests, physics theory and practical demonstrations to deepen understandings of climbing systems and equipment. Whether you climb indoors or outdoors, lead or second, this workshop will help you to build and use roped systems for climbing more efficiently and safely. No previous experience or equipment is necessary.

I'd certainly be open to running a workshop in Melbourne but it depends on the level of interest.

Hi Richard,
Today I posted you some of my retired Spectra/Dyneema slings for testing. I've included purchase, history and retirement details for the three different batches of slings/draws.
I'll be very interested to see how Spectra/Dyneema performs compared to Nylon.
Keep up the great work.

Have there ever been tests on strength of brass wires like RPs that have been bent near the head? Right when I was starting I was told this reduced strength significantly which seemed sensible but I always ignored the advice and just straightened then if they ever got kinked.
Are there any tests out there to scare me into being more sensible?

Hi Michael,
thanks!
I've almost got enough to schedule another session busting slings.

G'd evening R,
Although I haven't come good yet with my previous promise of slings for same...
:(
I'm currently in the process of moving house, and needing to downsize rekindled the thought process...
So, did I get an addy?, ~> although I have yet to re-read the thread...
I guess a benefit is the slings are now even older? ... assuming that you can still use them / want them.

I re-read the thread!

Is this addy / info still valid?
