What a great idea!
I might patent a new design, & probably market it with a catchy name like a 'cowstail' or similar!!

Sling with a knot tied in it, to easy! Clip in full length or clip in short. When you want to abseil clip your belay device in the knotted section just like the pretzl catalogue tells me too http://www.petzl.com/files/all/en/activities/sport/Solutions-Multi-pitch-climbing_Catalog-2012.pdf

That catalogue is good eh bro. Really thorough. It even ends up telling you how to pull your rope.
Gotta be able to identify with that need when it comes up eh bro.

I didn't need to read a catalogue to learn how to pull my rope, I'm glad you found it useful though.
Pretzl catalogues are a great source of info
