I reckon another thing to consider is just the stretch on top rope. When I try to drag my fat arse up my mate's harder climbs on second and fall off stretchy ropes always drop me further back down the route and I have to climb all the hard bits several times!! For this reason I avoid stretchy ropes, even 9s+. It's embarrassing enough falling off the first time, the fourth and fifth times with a pump really hurt!
Worth thinking about with kids on second.
