Wild Country Ropeman 3 Voluntary Recall

Hi All,
Overnight Wild Country have released the attached announcement regarding their Ropeman 3 unit.

Wild Country Ropeman 3 Recall

VOLUNTARY RECALL NOTICE - WILD COUNTRY ROPEMAN 3
29th October 2012

For the safety of all of our customers we are issuing an immediate recall of the Wild Country Ropeman 3. If you own a Wild Country Ropeman 3 please read this notice carefully and follow the instructions: “How to Return the Product”.

Reason for the recall:
The Ropeman 3 ascending device meets the requirements of EN567 (Mountaineering Equipment. Rope Clamps), however it has come to our attention that in certain circumstances, rather than locking on the rope as expected, the Ropeman III may slip when initially loaded. This slippage is more likely to occur when the rope is under significant tension and the cam of the Ropeman III has not been specifically set in position on the rope by the user. Once the cam has been properly located on the rope and the Ropeman 3 loaded without slippage the device will perform as expected. Nevertheless we recognize that there may well be scenarios particularly in difficult conditions such as poor weather, extreme fatigue or during the course of an accident where the Ropeman 3 may not in our opinion be fully relied upon to meet the reasonable expectations of the user.

Our first priority is the safety of our climbing and mountaineering colleagues and customers, therefore we have taken the decision to recall the Ropeman 3 with immediate effect.

We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

How to identify the product:
The Ropeman 3 is clearly marked with its name, comes in red and blue and can also be identified by it's ridged aluminium cam (a replacement version with a spiked stainless cam will be available).

How to return the product:
Please contact your store of purchase, or us directly at Expedition Equipment on 02 9417 5755 or sales@expeditionequipment.com.au

While there will be updated units coming out, the date is not set yet so please don't hold onto your Ropeman 3 while waiting for the new ones to be released. We would much rather prefer that all units are returned. We are happy to offer your choice of either a Ropeman 1 or Ropeman 2, along with a locking carabiner from Wild Country, as replacement for your Ropeman 3.

Thanks, and keep on climbing!

Just bumping this up to keep it on the front page for a while, as we would like to make sure that anyone who has a Ropeman3 has the chance to see this post.

Thanks again,
Expedition Equipment.

I notice it has been post-linked as an update to the 'sticky thread' permanently on top here.

Cheers for that. We saw that as well, good to know that it's the the Recall Thread.

That said, not many people check the individual threads all the time, so keeping it on the front page will allow the maximum visibility of the Recall for a little while ;)

We're really keen to make sure that any R3 user becomes aware that their device is recalled, until we can track down those sold in Australia :)

Thanks again,
Expedition Equipment
