How many kilos of jellybeans do you reckon you need to get through the innocuous and unavoidable sieve halfway down? Or the multiple foot entrapment possibilities?

This isn't really the right section for sh1ts and giggles with a tyre tube fellas. It looks really mellow at the put in, but the gradient picks up a heap.

Excellent, I've been misinterpreted on the internet.
For all the other people who didn't get it. The story of fools managing to survive something they hadn't prepared for was the nexus for me wanting to prepare for something that I can survive, manageably.

I also would like to point out my glenbrook adventure was a major snafu. Climberman, anyone up for some boating? I have a list of options, hours to days.

Yeah, just as long as the rain stops. anyway 3 weeks until the resorts close, I quit work, the CP road opens (hopefuly) and all the whakdudes go back to wherever they go, then its spring corn season on the main range!

WWS - possibly - am looking to stretch the ski season out for a bit.

Check in with some of the guys on the alpacka forum though in the Aust/NZ sub forum.

Hey Steve, sorry I wasn't trying to have a go (well sort of, but that's half the fun of the internet right :) ...). Just saying that I'd jump on something a bit (or a lot) more forgiving than that particular run to start with. I've paddled that section a few of times and wouldn't necessarily back myself to know exactly where the sieve is (and I know about it and would be looking for it). And if you accidentally head down the lead in to the river wide sieve, (which is really deceiving because it looks super nice and easy) you are pretty likely to drown. Also, should you come out of the raft, swimming the bouldery rapids in the snowies always carries at least some risk of foot entrapment, even on relatively mellow stuff, plus then there's logs and stuff... If it was me, I'd be starting out on the lower bit of the snowy (from the rafters put in road) or even from the Thredbo village down to Ngarigo or something first up.

yeah thanks uwhup. actually I know that I know so little of whitewater paddling so that I wouldn't jump into the thredbo river in a plastic kayak, let alone a rubber tube, these guys were lucky that they managed to fail early. I'll be starting low if I get one of these rubberduckies.

Thought the pack-rafting shots might appeal to WW&S
