Any idea about how would you make chalk more granite colour? Ash comes to mind but I wonder if it would still work the same.
There is plenty of over hanging granite so it may not wash off!
My post is asking a simple question why can't you give a simple answer????
No wonder chocky is depressed.

Soap.
Seriously soap can be made in so many colours, textures and flavours.

So, here's the thing.........granite doesn't really do overhanging. Therefore, when it rains, all the chalk gets washed off all the granite........which is why there isn't ever any chalk at booroomba.
Maybe you should worry about more important stuff in life than a few dabs of chalk which will be visually polluting the natural environment, until the next front comes through tomorrow arvo!

Anyway, to get back on topic. Fire ash would be likely be slippery. Try it.

It's surprisingly easy to do, unless it's really hot and muggy.

It's surprisingly hard for some people. For example, last night at the gym I took my shoes off and left a trail of sweaty foot prints from the wall to the front desk. My hands sweat about the same amount as my feet. Climbing without chalk is not really easy for everyone.
Right Neil?

Yes! Just yesterday I was cursing my sweaty fingers on a key glassy crimp on a project of mine. If I didn't pre-chalk massively on the hold before I would slip off it every time. And it's the middle of winter right now. I doubt I could do the move at all in summer.

Surgery? I'll deal with the excessive chalk usage and washing the sheets lots (sorry about your couch Sol)...

Indoors is a different kettle of fish and I agree about needing chalk there. Outdoors, I'm surprised by how little chalk I actually need. Granted I have the contact strength of a 90 yr old, and don't push the grades at all...

Outdoors is pretty well the same story. Even now there's little puddles on my desk where my hands have been...

I often only chalk up so I have an alternative to shitting myself.

Dear smartarses,
I guess I should have been more specific. When I said that granite doesn't do overhanging, I was refering to australian granite.........so, all the wankers with photos from overseas can keep wishing that we had that rock here.
All the knobs with ideas of dry corner/roof cracks can get used to the reality that water gushes out of those things when it rains.
Davidn can blow me if he thinks that those canberra granite eggs don't get washed in the weather we had last week.
M9 should realize that the Ozy Direct roof is probably the only genuine bit of un-rain affected granite in the country.......and that required lots of bolts, 500L of glue, and probably a little bit of hold enhancement to make it free climbable!!
