Ah, so you can't upload directly to chocky?
Does that mean that all the photos in posts are linked from photo sites?
Seriously, albi is gonna shit his pants when he sees this thing, CU is yesterday's technology!

How does $14.05 sound? Including many extra features which put this product in a class above the CU belay glasses.

You can upload to Chocky but they have to be tiny (see http://www.chockstone.org/Forum/Forum.asp?Action=Help&Topic=AddingPics )
I'm a little idle this afternoon so if you want you could email me the photos and I'll post them for you...

O.K. folks, here's the big product launch!
Introducing the new belay accessory from Hero Industries........we haven't settled on a name yet, and are keen for suggestions. A few we have been tossing about are;
-The CU2 Bitch
-The Breakfast Checka
-The Clackerscope
-Sweet Sweetback's Badass Hat
Features include;
-A hat
-Sweet pimping sweetness
-fully adjustable angle of viewing, from 45degrees forward to a closeup of your own forehead
-cool moving parts
-fully tightarse compatable
-complies with all relevant australian standards for mirror based belay hats
-gives you an arts and crafts project to occupy your evenings, you no-life loser
Optional Extras;
-A stubbie holder with crazy straw
-Shoe mounted 'Wide-angle' mirror ;)
Anyway, enough spiel, here's the pics, this thing sells itself
This is the shopping list you'll need to make your own
Can't expect a quality product like this without footing the bill........I'm expecting that everyone can come up with coathangers, thread, and ballpoint pens without having to get their wallet out
The key component, a perspex mirror, $8.25......and, one mirror is enough for 2 belay hats!
Highly technical blueprints
Cruising mode, mirrors retracted for more efficient pimping
Belay mode, mirrors deployed
The View. Camera is looking forward, hat is looking up......ooh yeah
BTW, the move to dual mirror technology has rectified the problem of image inversion which Albi pointed out
Close-up of cool wire-hinging shenanigans
The Belay Hat is not available for sale in stores, because no store is cool enough, just make one yourself
Any comments and suggestions are welcome

How do you feel now Mr San - accusing ODH of trolling when he has clearly been working on such a kwality and marketable product. Retract now or I might have to put you in the sin bin.

Sorry for resurrecting the old post...
But I actually have an answer to the original OP question.
The "invention" is hardly an optical novelty or even application of optics to glasses. These have been around at least since the 50s and they're called "bed prism glasses" or "prism glasses", but unlike belay googles your field of view points down instead of up.
The inventor turned the prisms around.
Googling or baying for those glasses returns lots of hits, the lowest one I've seen was 30 bucks. Those glasses allow you to read or watch tv while you're lying down.
If you're going to buy bed prism glasses and invert the prisms, be sure to line them up carefully or you can get your eyes messed up.

Difficult if you wear glasses. They have a metal edge that rubs on the lens.

How did I miss these? Sweet as bro! My vote for the name is above and if you ever go public with Hero Industries don't forget to offer us a chance to get in early.

I bundled 'CU belay glasses' with "Armaid" & was super skeptical about spending $200+ on products that climbers had lived without for decades, however was pleasantly surprised by the usefulness of both items.

I borrowed the name from a 1970's Blaxploitation film, Sweet Sweetback's Baaaaaadass Song. (yes, they spell it with the extra a's on the poster)
You should google it Miguel, sounds (from the plot synopsis) like it would really be your kind of flick :D

Yeah, but aren't you the guy who craps on about all the gymhead supplements you take? I imagine that if one were spending 200 bucks a month on protein powder and useless shit like that, a bit more wasted money would barely be noticed.

Lol, ever bought a gatoraide? Well the supps I buy are cheaper than a Gatoraide but with zero sugar, that's the only reason i was spraying about supps... (so I am saving money and not rotting my teeth with all the poweraide I used to drink)
As for belay glasses, I dont like neck pain, this solves the problem, and yes, I have mates who love to project routes that are too hard for them (hence why my latest sports harness is a big wall harness, for all the dogging that goes on).
Armaid, hmmm, just seemed like a fun toy, and suprisingly actually works way better than expected, may not cure all forearm related woes, but again helps with recovery.
Seriously, these glasses are great, I hate looking up for more than a few mins, and with CU glasses u can still look up and see around the prisms, or just stare straight ahead an keep good alignment thru the neck. Are they worth $130? Well as already previously stated, that's not alot compared to chirpo bills etc.

Did u really buy that armaid thing?

Yeah, I bought it as I had problems with Golfers Elbow (from repetitive strain due to motor bike courier), plus general forearm/tendinitis issues. Not a miracle cure, but for $100 cheaper and better than repeat visits to an average massage therapist.
It works great for deep tissue massage thru the forearm, besides that u can do some funky stretching of the forearm muscles by clamping the arm, making a fist (to lengthen the muscles) and rotate the fist. The guy who invented the device is a doctor and includes a DVD with specific instructions for helping with:
Forearm Pain
Tendonitis
Tennis Elbow / Golfers Elbow
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Thumb Problems
Lympedema
