I'm sorry (yet another) Damo, but the two of you are not the only Damos in the climbing community. I am not the only Wendy. Patto on here has been mistaken for my ex who is also sometimes called Patto. This shit happens. There are only so many names that are reasonably common in the world, and most of us have one of them. People work out who is who eventually. Any quick glance at the thread will make it obvious.

Many of them have a moniker because their actual name is already taken, because loads of names are common! If people don't put their name in their profile, I'll avoid using it because they obviously don't want to share it. If they have it in their profile, then they are equally obviously fine about it.

Wow, did you get out of the wrong side of bed this morning? No one is making you read through any more of the thread than you find useful. A little bit of self editing of Chockstone goes a long way.

I'm just glad my name isn't Simey!

Yes, exactly Wendy, which is why monikers are useful in web forums - no two people can have the same one, so it's obvious in a thread who someone is talking about. Not everyone checks people's profiles, most websurfing is skimming and clicking.

The privacy issue I mentioned is just part of it. Just because the person is OK with their real name being known (to those checking their profile) does not automatically mean it's a good idea to use it in threads, re: the confusion issue. You don't like monikers, but you're forcing the potential consequences of that preference onto strangers. I know it's a small thing, but this is the internet, things don't have to be important to argue about them :-)

Even by my standards this thread is waay off track! So to be clear, I also think nmontieth bolts too much, it's good that he apologised straight up, but would have been better if he had already gone back and fixed it if he knew it was bad. I try to avoid bolts if I can, I don't like them, unfashionable as that is nowadays. I think mikl's colourful diagram was really nice and I think it's good that people discussed why it happened so that it hopefully won't happen again. So, apologies if I missed it, but has someone gone back and chiselled it?

This is the thread that just keeps on keeping on....

In keeping with the off topic spirit of it; Merry Christmas to all. I'm still hoping for a set of WC hexes;)

hexes suck balls.

I am surprised someone of your persuasion doesn't wish for aliens at Christmas time.

Sorry trollman. You cannot call it the "naughty" carpet due to the negative connotations associated with the word naughty (whats so bad about Naughty &Nice though?). May I suggest a name change to the "magic" carpet.

Don't forget the man in the red suit knows who's been naughty or nice. (and I don't mean Mr Law)

Yeah there is a real problem in the world when people refer to other people by their NAMES (seriously wtf?) I think that the best solution is to change your forum name to something like "akdiluylalkdg980983939a9giousao;idf". And just to be sure that there's no confusion, maybe change your real name by deed poll to that as well. Its a bugger to pronounce but at least you'll be free from the scourge of mistaken chockstone identity.

ps. In other news, that Damo (you know... THAT Damo, as in Damo Damo... as in climbing Damo from Chockstone) is a real twat :P

hay yehhhh . . . . . . thanks for your insight and correcting my demeaning implication.

And your wisdom got me to thinking. Carpet is unhygienic, hosting dust mights and microbes that have bad effect on asthma and other respiratory ailments.

So as to be mindful to every one who might suffer of these conditions, from now on naughty people have to sit on the magic plank for a week.
