Maybe if you take a competent belayer along that pays attention to your climbing, your distance from the ground, the amount of rope out, the difficulty of the moves you are doing judging by your constant communication with them (eg: "take a bit, i'm not sure i can do this move!") and them ignoring social chatting with other gym members, there wouldn't be any problems?
i don't know why people are scared of decking in the gym? i know that the belayers i use are in tune with what i just mentioned in the last paragraph. the gym is nothing to be scared of, it's the person at the other end (not) catching you when you fall that you have to be scared of...

Talking about autolocking belay devices... Has anyone used an Edelrid Eddy yet? Would you be happy to use one in a gym to increase safety?

Would be interesting to hear what there insurance company is saying. Surely they wouldn't be impressed.
What about those that have been injured? Who do they blame? Belayer? Gym? Their own fault? Act of God?

Who are teaching these people to belay?
Farking hell. I hope this isn't going to be some disease that spreads through all the gyms..

That is the most dangerous place, due many a lurgy lurking there for the unwary stomach!

Some who could be described as beard strokers, might say the gym climbing disease has spread to the outdoors now?

Drinking beer can be a very risky proposition with widewetandslippery. There are many who will vouch for that.

from one of the first threads...

"she received a multiple fracture at c1 or c2 vertebrate, but no spinal damage. she is one very lucky
girl. it looks like she be alright after a long recovery."

Hiya....

Just wanted to provide some clarity...C1 and/or C2 is referring to your atlas/axis joint, where your
spine joins your skull.

If this was the case....It is a spinal fracture!

It is a dangerous fracture.

It is an unfortunate accident, that may require halo vest immobilisation and/or spinal fusion depending
on severity and sequelae.

(for anyone interested in an overview, simply because this is what can happen during our recreational
pursuits)

for C1 fracture...

for C2 fracture...

I wish her a speedy recovery, but spinal fractures and speedy recoveries are somewhat contradictory.

It's a high risk sport, with 'human' element playing the bigger part. Add the human element, and we will
always have accidents.

she's in rehab just about to go home, it will be at least 3 months in the halo

That's why you climb with 2 chalk bags! 1 for the chalk and the other for a stubby.
