Heartfelt sympathies to all. With so many old and new friends currently camping at Stapylton I hope
everyone takes the time to double/triple check everything. If anyone needs a free place to stay for a
night in melbourne, send me an email.

tragic, RIP. I feel very much for his family,

at least hopefully (albeit way too soon) he died in pursuit of happiness on our golden rocks.

Conjecture, I stress only conjecture, at the gym tonight was that a fall off a route such as Soweto might have caused a 15m groundfall.

The not-so-well known problem may have occurred where the belayer is standing out from the base of the cliff, then as a result of a fall, the rope tension causes the gear below the top piece to be pulled outwards and fail. If the top piece then fails ..

This almost happened to two friends engaged in the conversation tonight (you know who you are) on Soweto. A cam in a horizontal kept the rest of the gear from being ripped outwards.

Conjecture. Worth mentioning anyway, as a reminder.

I am really saddened to hear of this unfortunate news. It seems so much more bitter knowing that the people involved are on holidays, ... that are intended to be happy times.

My condolences to the family and friends of the person involved.
