Got stung twice (on the neck and face) on Collision Course last week. Then a few days later stung on the ear whilst climbing Iphygenia round the corner. Big hive also on Honeycomb at Echo Crag

Just relocate the killer Redback.

She'll make short work of those buzzy little f#ckers.

So how did Orestes go?

Gerryn, is it still possible to do Honeycomb? How close is the hive.

Yes, it went. (sheepishly) With some rests. I should post some beta on the appropriate thread, the traverse wasn't nearly as hard as everyone made it out to be. IMHO.

When I did Honeycomb there were no bees, just a deserted hive. That would be a couple of years ago though.

There was an active hive around Honeycomb or Nativity when I was up there at the start of November. We we just looking over from touchstone so I can't tell exactly how big a problem you'd have climbing past them.

if its the same one from august-ish, Nativity is unaffected, and Honeycomb could still be done but you'd have to traverse off right asap after the crux (a few metres below the hive)

Spotted a new hive at the Watch Tower Face Right Side rap station. In an dead tree not 10m from the rap anchors. If you walk in from any of the routes to the right you will have to pass with in 5m of the hive.

Not to sure it was a Hive or whether tthere is just a large collection of bees/wasps knocking around trying to get some BETA - but there were loads of them on the easy descent on Bushrangers Bluff, just did "revolver crack" (7**) and as you reach lower level walking back around to the base of the climb there were loads of the things on the left...

There's an active beehive in the starting crack of Infinity (16) Northern Group. I thought the bees were just going into the crack for water but then I saw the hive deep in the crack. Beat a hasty retreat.

Would these make it difficult to climb on Hum Terrace? Might be heading that way and one of the party is allergic to bees....

I doubt it. They would probably want to keep out from the lower Hum face when approaching though. Maybe go up to the base of Entertainer and cut across to the log up the slab from there.

(bump) Update:

There appears to be three hives active at the Atridae at present. Two of the holes on Smooth Journey are occupied and were buzzing yesterday. I'd stay away from that and even Collision Course on warm days.

There's a third lot of activity near the top of the first pitch of Iphigenia. You can avoid them by stepping right onto the face at no change of grade, but it's still a little nervy when they're busy.

(Mods note: as a search of the forum brings up a bunch of threads about bees, let's keep this one as the main reference.)

There are bees in one of the routes on Hells Bells wall as well, it might have been Hells Bells itself, not sure as I only heard second hand.

There were however no bees in Honeycomb 3 weeks ago.
