Hi, I had a largish hernia 5 years ago and have healed up well. Id like to do an 8000m peak in the Himalayas after preparing for a couple of years or so.
Im finding it very difficult to get a surgeon/specialist, to sign off on what kilogram limits i can lift, push, carry in a pack etc. To satisfy an expedition/guide company, and various other things, I have to have this.
Those i have consulted, including the ones who treated me,are always happy to tell me,and insurance companies there is nothing wrong with me,but wont contradict other insurance companies who stop me from being employed on principle, because ive had such an injury in my history.
If anyone has found a solution or undergone this/has something to share, please do. Happy climbing, best to all.

Will this testimony help? "I started climbing 8 weeks after my op and regretted it slightly, climbed ok 10 weeks after and never looked back".

In the absence of any medical details: If you had an operation 5 years ago, and the hernia hasn't recurred while you are living an active life, it should be irrelevant to any further medical certificate requirements and there should be no limits at work or play. In labourers usually light duties from 6 weeks and normal duties from 10 weeks post hernia repair. Collagen is pretty well cross linked ( ie scar tissue matured) by 120 days.

ok thanks, Im aware that it shouldnt in practical terms, its more to do with insurance type things, which can be mutually exclusive. I can be a bit uncomfortable/strained carrying more than 15kg for extended periods, but that might be approaching limits that would be there anyway. Thanks for your reply to the question :)
