The extremely experienced walker, photographer and author Les Southwell (age 88) is missing on Mt Bogong between Cleve Cole and Michell Huts.
He's well-equipped but given his level of experience it's very concerning that he became lost in this area. Search will resume at first light on Sunday.
I don't know Les personally but I have his beautiful "Mountains Of Paradise" book of SW Tasmania. Just have to hope for a good outcome.

Reading between the lines (of the report), the fact that he was found "outside a tent" makes one wonder whether he mightn't have made a decision that this was his time. If so, what a wonderful way to go. Either way, clearly a life well-lived.I hope I can go out in a similar fashion after having such a full life. Vale Les Southwell.

I heard a police officer on the radio news saying they suspected a "medical issue".
To go at 88 on Bogong, that'll do.

There is no way Les would have created a situation where others would have to go looking for him . He was always incredibly fit and equipped for his trips.
