Im trying really really super hard but I just can't quite picture this guy being the same guy as the balls to the wall hard man of 'back in the day' that I have imagined in my head for so long.
I'm wonder how he managed to acquire the services of a good band and some hot backing singers, on national telly, with that shithouse song?
Anyway, I've always been curious about his music. Seemed like a crazy climber myth that he sings for a living, but this video lends a bit credibility to the story.

I used to watch The Big Gig every week but I guess I missed that one. TBG launched the careers of the Doug Anthony All Stars. Obviously didn't do the same for Ewbank's.

I really do, and it's getting worse...........oh shit, I'm turning into an old fart climber!
I must have stopped paying attention to that other thread before the video got posted up, definitely would have remembered the crapulence of that song. There's a lyrics page on John's website, no overt climbing reference songs which is a big plus for his cred.

You think that bad, wait till you see simey trying to resurect himself cos old footie songs dont even come close to cutting it half as well as Ewies effort!
I mainly lurk on chockstone, but I couldn't resist pointing out the advice column on that site - http://www.verticalsongs.com/advice.html . Some pretty crazy stuff in there! For example:
Where else to turn?
Dear John:
I don't know where else to turn. I love your stuff and think you may be one of the only people who can truly help me. My problem is that I have a huge, almost obscene desire to be a famous and respected poet/singer-songwriter/performance artist/recording star but I increasingly suspect that I have virtually no talent whatsoever. It seems that all the lessons and study in the world have not helped and now I feel despair creeping in. The reason I love your stuff so much is that you have always struck me as being somewhat similar to myself in regards the huge disparity between your ambitions and your ability to realise them. My question really is how do you keep on believing in yourself when it must be pretty obvious by now that you have very little to offer that is of any real interest? The fact that you keep on keeping on in spite of your obvious lack of genius is truly inspiring to a fellow duffer like me. What's the trick? Are you into religion or do you do drugs?
Best wishes and good luck and please tell me how you keep going.
Sincerely Jim K...Seattle. Washington
Dear Jim:
You can go f--- yourself. I can't believe your letter is serious.
