North up the hume highway, exit just after Glenrowan service centre, drive through Milawa to Myrtleford on the snow road, then on to Porepunkah, right turn at the big round about in porepunkah, drive up the hill, don't turn towards the chalet but go on past the lake, left into the campsite just past the lake.
pretty straightforward really - allow 4 hours from the northern suburbs of melbourne

ie right onto the Great Alpine Road (well sign-posted).
(Note left takes you to Wangaratta).

Fixed that with a couple of minor corrections, as there is no need to go through Milawa on the Snow Rd, though that back road can be a nice scenic drive (and slightly shorter), depending where you are coming at it from...
This is especially so if travelling after dark, as it is as quick and safer to stay on the major roads, due less kangaroos, etc.

Under the floorboards ~ another correction.
Thanks for the feedback cm!

I'm definitely coming. Heading down tomorrow and will stay until early next week. Is there room left on anyone's site for the weekend?

See you Friday.

Cheers PI. I've booked the same site for Wed-Thurs too so I don't even have to move. I notice that not only has the price gone way up this year but they're trying to get money for extra vehicles per site too!

Hi All,

Definitely coming up Friday.

M9 - I am keen to get on something in the afternoon (as you offered) if your going to be around, I have PM'd you my number so we can arrange a meet up if u r keen.

Then if there is room and I would love to squeeze onto site 12 or 59 where ever I can really and will happily chip in food / booze / cash....

Also met up with Dave_S at the weekend and made repeat jumar ascents of a static line rigged to a wall in Nothcote at about 4m high ! Also ended up trying to top rope aid the wall as well.......which actually worked

Neal, it's just silly I've stayed in hotels for that much. Clean ones.

If it wasn't going to be a reasonably social event I would go bush.

Best,

PI

Thanks gordoste.
Weather looks to be a mixed thing for the period involved at the moment, though last time was an iffy forecast too, and it turned out ok.

@ MonkeyBoy, I replied your PM.

The 'list' in a higher post is updated to current status.

OK Getting sorted for the trip:
Got etts, daises, and ascenders on loan from Miguel75 (thanks Mike) and also got Keiranl's old ascenders that work a treat.
Seems like aid climbers are nice people — Mike also gave me an evening tutorial on jugging up a rope: free hanging and low angle. Mike can't make it this weekend even though he'd like to, at least his gear gets an outing.
So gear, tick (happy to share this stuff with other beginners).
Had a crack at aiding self belayed with a clove hitch. Very slow progress but I made it up 5m before blowing out my small cam. Then made a complete hash of lowering off which gave me some jugging practice, followed by rappelling from the top to retrieve gear… got out of there just on dark.
So figuring out what I need to learn, tick.
Getting camping and family organised, we'll get there midday friday, probably with two tents to give the kids a bit of room and a cooking shelter. Camping, almost tick
Looking forward to it, see you all there.

M9,

Yes.

... If the weather holds. If our skills, efficiency, fitness and psyche are up to snuff.

Quite a few ifs there.

Uncertain outcomes make for the most memorable ascents.

@ TimP
>(snip) Seems like aid climbers are nice people — Mike also (snip)
... despite his penchant for being inveigled onto the Buffalo walls by PI to gain aid climber cred?

Mike deserves a cookie for the first sandbag of the weekend, and being smart in avoiding the suffering...

I have my contingency plan in place if any aid climbers are nasty to me.

Phil's inveigling was surprisingly gentle:)

Oh how I wish I were able to attend the sufferfest. Tim and I jugged up and down Boogie til you puke the other night and it reignited my desire to get on something scary, like Greys Arete:) Whilst my desire is strong, my climbing time is currently non-existent.

Do your contingency plans also involve a hammer?
