A good idea. Consider it done! (There is a sticky pointer back to this thread, over on Crag and Beta section).

A compilation from a couple of recent threads.
Feel free to add corrections and updates as necessary.

>V-Line train and bus to Horsham (30 km from Arapiles) operates daily - think it's about $25 per person one way. During the week there is a connecting bus from Horsham to Arapiles in early afternoon but on weekends you'll have to hitch (or take a taxi but that's an expensive option and sounds like not on your radar).

Failing that, bivy out, if it rains, move into the picnic shelter. Meeting people there will be easy. other accomodation options involve hitching to the mt each day. Try really hard to pick up. Seriously, it is normally fine to bivy, later this week might get a bit wet, but the picnic shelter is huge. Or you can stop at Kmart in horsham and buy a tent for $20.

>Additional advice is that a shuttle bus runs from the Horsham coach terminal. If you go from melbourne you get into horsham about 11:30. you can leave your stuff at the bus station. Go shopping in bulk and return to bus station. This means you can buy as much shit as you want without having to worry about carrying it anywhere. The shutle bus leaves around 2pm? and can drop you off directly at arapiles.

The bus from Arapiles to Horsham now runs 45 minutes earlier than in the timetable linked above. I'll try and post the new timetable shortly.

if you can't find arapiles, but you know it's name. and have internet access. there is something wrong. (full stops are hemmingway commas)
this is a very sad thread.
if you don't know the name 'arapiles', the thread won't help.
this is the most stupid thing i have ever seen posted on chockstone.

Yet it's a compilation of answers to questions frequently asked on chockstone and since it was posted there's been a sharp drop in the number of posts asking things answered by this thread. It's almost like it worked or something...

School holidays start this weekend in NSW and I was planning on loading up the family truckster and heading down to Arapilies for a fortnight with the bride and a keen young crew. I've been keeping an eye on the news with regular reports of flooding and impending floods for Victoria. Not sure how much of it is a beat up. Will I make it or get turned away at one of the many bridges we'll be crossing? How is it down there? I've tried deciphering the vicroads website but I don't find it gives a clear picture.

We just drove down today - lots of water but no issues. Forecast for Saturday is rain but not as heavy as thy've had. You should be fine.
