What was your climbing ratio in 2012?

Cause I'm a stats geek.... I wish we had better software on Chocky - could use external stuff but then it'd get lost in the chockosphere.

I had to be honest - in 2012, we had a baby. So although I got a few nice trips in at the start of the year (trad & sport) realistically - I've been outdoor climbing about 6 times since bub arrived ... mostly sport.. Though I do usually take my rack with me and enjoy the chance if I get it.

So don't worry about what you wish you did, or you did in 2011 - what's your honest ratio for 2012?

What sort of meaningful stats is that inconsistent list going to provide? You could tick mostly outdoor trad regardless of weather you did 365 days of it or 4, as long as at least 3 were outdoor trad. But you couldn't tick i climb almost everyday if you don't climb in a gym, cause you listed gym in there! But you could tick i climb almost every day if you went to the gym 5 days a week. And lots of climbing only comes with mountaineering attached. What's the difference between I really only climb in the gym and Mostly gym with a little outdoor sport? I think your list needs a little editing. Starting from the question, what sort of a picture are you trying to get from these stats and what are the simplest questions that will provide it?

Lots of cragging, some gym, some mountains and even a little bouldering. I reject this trad versus sport rubbish.

2012 had extremes of climbing for me - first half, loads of mostly trad outdoor climbing, maybe 4 days a week with trips to Buffalo, Flinders Island and Moonarie thrown in. Then I had shoulder surgery and barely climbed off the couch for 5 months. 1 month of easy peasy climbing on the recovery schedule, get really sick and spend the last 3 weeks of the year back on the couch.

I couldn't find something that fitted!

Half sport, half trad, no gym, no mountaineering.

Sorry Wendy - I think you were looking for this thread

I mentioned in my opening post: the POLL software is very limited... I can remove "gym" from the lots of climbing list - as I had (apparently wrongly) assumed everyone climbs in a gym at some point...

I added the "only climb at the gym" because there are some people who have never climbed outdoors - that is different to mostly in the gym.
Also - I can't change a topic once it's been voted for. Again - the chockstone Poll software is limited.

Sometimes I climb 3 times a week, either trad or self belay. Sometimes I lay in bed and dream of unicorns. And candy mountain:)

None of the above.
Got my quota of 100 routes in, mostly trad, got to the gym probably 35 times, trained on some bluestone occasionally.

I'm not bitching - I'm saying the list is a bit skewwiff! I see it doesn't describe Neil's climbing either, so it obviously leaves out some very active climber's general climbing.

But i think I have worked out what you want from your stats - did anyone else have a pisspoor year of climbing due to factors like babies? So hopefully my miserable 6 months of the year with no climbing helped you feel less alone in your lack of climbing.

How is "Mostly Trad" none of the above?

I'm doing research relating to Neil's thread:
Sport climbers - why don't you climb trad?

and I'm actually really curious to see what the Chockstone ratio is.
In the bitchiness thread - there was discussion about how representative of the "climbing community" chocky users are; this way you could get some insight into who we all are.
Another way would be to look at what boxes everyone ticked when they created their accounts, assuming, like me, most haven't touched their profile since they joined..

I Climb:
Gym Boulder Top Rope
Sport Trad Single Pitch Trad Multi Pitch
Aid/Big Wall Ice Real Mountains

since the gym option isn't getting many hits - I could add:
"didn't climb much due to injury / baby / other"

Shouldn't there be an option

' I don't climb, I just sit around and bitch ' ?

That'll draw the punters in!

FFS- Why not just answer as best as possible . . .

Neils was 'Mostly outdoor sport climbing', lets be honest . .
GFDoncs was 'Mostly trad' by the sounds of it . .

Some will be 'mostly internet bitching . . .' which isn't there . . .

Apart from a big stint this year at Joshua Tree, Gunks, Cottonwood Canyon and the NRG! ;-) Actual quality trad climbing - unlike the majority of choss trad in the Bluies.

I'd estimate my climbing for 2012 at 1/3rd Indoor, 2/3rds Outdoor.

Utilising the stat tracking on TheCrag.com, apparently the breakdown for outdoor stuff is:

367 ticks (not including Seconds, Top-Ropes or Unfinished Attempts) for 2012.

Of that, 65% were sport. 30% were trad, and 5% were boulders.

I also climbed 1 peak over 7000m (and did some other miscellaneous peaks in the vicinity).

Yes, I'm boasting. 2012 has been one of the most awesome years of my life. Through climbing I've met the greatest people I've ever come across (and some absolute bastards, -whom I love to hate-, so I have that aspect of my socialising covered as well).
