Dont get me wrong joe, i love the idea of an idea comp/boulderfest but the planning and choice of venue would be very important.

The Goatathlon would have some impact on the tracks given that running up and down such tracks puts a lot more stress on them. Given the low numbers of people (10 participants this year), I don't think it is a big issue. The course involves running up and down the Mount via Pharos and Central Gully and then riding up to the summit via the bitumen road (with a few laps of the fire dam along the way).

There is no insurance, no entry fee and no prize money (but there is the coveted yellow jersey and goat horn for the winner).

It is usually announced a few weeks beforehand sometime between Feb and April.

There is no permission to run the event. As someone recently said on another thread, "If you don't think you will like the answer, then don't ask the question''.

Good point evanbb.
I also agree with nmonteith that it is an odd TR, ... but given the contentious nature of it perhaps it is better here than in the general discussion forum?

Re safety and NP issues, I wonder if the climbing contests that the Russians used to organise considered these aspects, or due to cultural differences death/injury at similar is just par for the course?

Btw jgoding I commend you for enthusiasm but I too thought the concept unusual when I first read it.
In the same flavour (of sorts), it will be interesting to see how the proposed 'back to Taipan' w/end turns out for participation rate.
