Nicely done Neil.

The images at the base of the Eiger Nordwand capture well the menacing reputation and atmosphere of the grand wall

My favourites are:
Page 1, Pic 6: Neil redpoints Super Mickey (7b) Ceuse
- Now that's one impressive looking line! Please tell me the route begins just out of shot below, and not acres beneath as the image implies.

Page 1, 2nd last pic: Jacqui rugged up at the Ceuse campground
- Classic! Beware towel wielding puffy jacket climbers from Aus.

Page 2, Pic 7: Marty tackles the groove on this 6a at Ceuse
- Not only is it a sweet pic, but it looks like he's soloing! The rope and belayer if they are there are well camouflaged, and no gear is visible on his harness. The focus remains on that next chalked hold. Spooky!

So Neil, Jacqui, et al, if you could only go back to >>one<< place, which would you chose?

I like the look of Verdon Gorge - but I'd better check the grades before I go in case I couldn't get up any thing!!

Definitely Orpierre. So much to do there. It's like a bolted Arapiles :-)

If I could hook up with locals or people that knew the place well, Font. If not, Ceuse!

I am surprised by your choice of Oppierre Jaq... though I only spent one afternoon there so maybe just picked the wrong climbs. The rock on the climbs I did were far below Ceuse or Verdon quality. Though it and the town are nestled in a pretty valley, and next to no walk in to speak off (hence the reason for going there - wanted a break from the Ceuse walk in)

Richard - Verdon has climbs of all grades, all abilities are catered for.

Defintely agree with your choices Lee. Font is the best bouldering area, and Ceuse the best sport climbing anywhere!!

Verdon Gorge was totally magic. Lots of differing grades, amazing scenery, zero walk-ins, great rest day activities (hiking, canyoning, canoing, eating). The place is massive - and because you rap in you only have to commit to a what you want to do. If you only want to do a single pitch then do that - if you want a 15 pitch monster then go all the way to the ground! The rock quality, bolting and lines were all three star. Adventure - but generally safe adventure. The campsite was also very rustic - which is good. I felt liek i hadn't even seen 1% of the area. Picture an area the size of the Blue Mtns but instead of mostly choss you get to climb the best limestone on the planet.

My second choice was Ceuse (totally classic lines galore - and lots to return to). After climbing for a few days at Ceuse you feel super fit. The walk-in is the warmup and it really lets you cleanse your mind and focus on the days tasks. It isn't easy to bail and go bludge at a resturant. Once you are at Ceuse you HAVE to stay and climb all day. My third choice would possibly be Font or the Dolomites...

i gather you disliked the walk in at ceuse jac ("not a real crag if the walk in is more than 5 mins"). how monstrous are your legs now?? great to see you had an awesome trip. catcha in the gramps sometime.

Everyone knows I don't like long walkins! We have plenty of long walkins here in Victoria... in Europe there was a luxurious abundance of short ones :-)

I found that my dodgy ankle proved to be a bit of a pest so preferred the shorter walkins :-)
