Are you aware that three of the "Octonauts" recently climbed on Balls pyramid and disturbed some phasmids without the LHI authorities or the locals knowing?
If you don't believe me then here is proof
(Be quick - it's only available to watch until 8 March 2016)

They climbed up there using suction paws yet the octonauts seem capable of managing many other feats without using aid.

Not as scientifically rigorous as the Octonauts, but NPR just put this up:

As for the new books, I've heard that the upcoming Roots & Smith one is the better of the two - more history, better photos - so now we're spoiled for choice.

+1 for this. I've seen the proof copy of the upcoming Roots & Smith book and it is definitely the one to save your $$ for.

The new book "South Pacific Pinnacle - The exploration of Balls pyramid" will be out in the middle of the year.
Clarification: Though Dave Roots has been a significant contributor the editors are Jim Smith and Keith Bell.
Amongst other things it includes, "Personal accounts by 17 climbers, including the first english translations of the Japanese and French expeditions (which) portray vividly what it is like to live on this inhospitable rock and travel over its vast ridges and walls".
Many new (never before published) photos of this stunning peak.

Got my copy yesterday.
It's an absolute ripper. I don't think they printed that many of these so armchair (and actual) mountaineers as well as collectors should get their skates on if they want a piece of this.

A media embargo until 22/4 unfortunately, though several presentations at LHI museum have already acknowledged the base camp crew of 5, and 6 climbers who got to the summit, but more importantly did 8 days and nights of field research for the Australian Museum. There is also a reference on the Australian Museum website blog to the names of the crew.

More interesting than your average dry scientific paper!
The photos do invoke a deep regret that I can't go back! :-(
