After going through all the info I could find about Cape Woolamai I've decide that no one really knows much about the area. The route descriptions are all over the place and after about 10 trips to the place I still dont know where the MIDDLE COAST is, is it the other rocks out near the water past the pinnacles, is it part of the PINNACLES as the old eatern district guide alludes to or is it part of the actual cliffline?
I know its definately not a classy place to climb but when its only half an hour from home (and the next closest place is the Prom with its run out slabs and not so climber friendly Rangers) it grows on ya. Especially with the fact that when you get to the carpark and the surfs good you can ditch the ropes and get some awesome waves.
If anyone can fill in the gaps and provide some good info then id be way stoked. Im also going to take some photos of spots and put it up in the hope that people can draw some lines where stuff goes so maybe we can all use it as a resource.

Don't get too excited Paulie. I went to Woolamai once when I lived in Wonthaggi. Uncoiled the rope, started climbing, saw how bad the rock was, looked up and saw that it was going to get worse, downclimbed, went home to the pub, never returned.

The climbings not the greatest James but as you know Arapiles is a good 5 1/2 hours from here and if you dont mind a bit of adventure and are happy to be climbing well within your grade then it makes for an interesting day besides Im led to believe theres some fairly new bolts on some of the better known climbs.
Did you climb around here locally cos if theres something iv'e missed id love to know about it.
Thanks.

Surfinclimb,
Wonthaggi's local mega crag is Wilsons Prom. Unfortunately, the other climber in Wonthaggi at the time hated granite, and hated slabs, So we tended to climb elsewhere. We did a fair bit around Gippsland - Mt Erica, Mt Tabletop (choss), Buchan etc.
I'd suggest you make friends with Paulie in Yarram.
Also, might be worth taking a look at a cliff below the western edge of Kilcunda. It's not quite as soft as the rest of the rock around there, and there's a fence at the top you could belay from.
Cheers

That cliffline at kilcunda is it between the kilcunda caravan park and the little hamlet on the hill as you head out towards melbourne or is it between the hamlet and the punch bowl? Thanks

Depending on how the surf looks I may go and check out these hidden Kilcunda 3 star mega classics at the weekend and have a scout around. Has anyone actually climbed any routes here? I'll update the thread with my findings on Monday. I live in Killy and have not seen anyone climbing nearby...

Yeah that'd be great thanks, do a TR on it, I'd be super keen to pay the place a visit and do some (if required) development. Surf this weekend is looking ok if you can get away from the south westerly...2-3mtr swell with a 9.30am high tide! Woohooo :)

Directly under the hamlet on the hill. Take the road though the hamlet, and stop just before your car falls in the sea. There is (was) a fenced in compound full power pole components (wire, insulators etc), presumably doing enviro testing. Climb below this.
I'm sure it's utter crap, in a region of utter utter crap.
When I lived in Wonthaggi, I used to climb about 75% Gramps, 15% Buffalo, 5% Araps, 5% East Gippsland, 0% local.
