Planning on taking the family for a 2 week road trip interstate at the end of June. Could anyone please give some recommendations on some worthwhile climbing destinations outside Victoria that would have reasonable weather at that time of year?

Have full rack with double ropes and climbing up to 20 trad and 22 sport.

Thanks!

-Ben

Moonarie! Amazing!

You can even have a good choice of luxuries for the family by staying at Wilpena Pound. But you can't escape the uphill slog to the crag.

Nowra's pretty good that time of year. Warm and kid friendly. How old are they? There's a couple of good camp grounds by the river, near the crags and one has an animal park attached!

Point perp is awesome however cold and not so kid friendly. It's not far from Nowra and worth checking out.

Blue Mountains and Wolgan if you've never been but dress warm. Plenty of sunny crags up there.

Thanks for the replies.

My kids are only 10 and 5. My 10 year old is a pretty experienced climber for his age having ticked over 50 routes at Arapiles and the Grampians up to 17 including Bard, Lamplighter, Brolga, Watchtower Crack, Missing Link and Mari. He's creative, brave and loves to climb, but we do most of our climbing in a group of three with a mate of mine.

Seeing as we will have my wife who is a beginner and my five year old daughter the trip will just be single pitch only but we will be scouting out multi's to come back and do in another trip down the track with my mate.

Multis? You won't be scouting out Nowra for Multis.

There's a few Multis at Point Perp but that's not why it's kid unfriendly. You could climb here with a five year old, I think I might have . Left her in the fenced off light house area with her brother while her mother and I top roped nearby.

Camping?

This campground has a zoo! http://shoalhavenzoo.com.au/

I prefer the one next door. If you stay here they'll let you use the canoes free of charge to paddle accross to Thompsons point. The photo on their website was taken from the crag. Camp fires are permitted. It's empty that time of year...you could easily have the place to yourself.

Just got back from 5 days in Nowra with the family. Thanks to everyone who offered advice we had a great time! Stayed at the ski park and canoed across the river which the kids loved.

They also loved the jungle/river setting of the crag. We had perfect weather and with my 10 year old son following and my wife and 5 year old daughter in tow we ticked off: Lucifer, Santa's Little Helper, Samurai Pizza Cats, Orca, Vanderholics, Diddy Kong, Frig The Pig, Sloth, Wingardium Leviosa, Sirius Black and The Golden Snitch.

Had a couple of holds break off the Golden Snitch but besides that everything was good fun!

Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the mini trip report potex.

Had to look up the last few climbs you mentioned. Looks like you found Hogwarts. I was looking for this area a few years ago, when my kids were little, but failed. I think we may have spotted you guys. Me and Misses were climbing a day at the beach and my kids (boy14, girl 12) were doing battle with Speedboat Wankers. You were heading to Sloth.

I've found those canoes brutally heavy.

Hey Pedro,

Ahh yes I remember you, nice to meet you mate!

Yeah we had a ball on Sloth my boy flew up it, we found Hogwarts which was pretty tucked away and slightly confusing to find. A fun little crag to visit especially with a 10 year old who's reading his way through the Harry Potter books.

Thanks for the tips!

-Ben
