Hi,
I realise it is a bit of a longshot (and obviously not in Victoria) but does anybody have any experience of climbing at Kaputar? Is it a worthwhile destination?
Cheers,
Mike

I have climbed there twice. It is a good and very atmospheric area with several quality crags. The rock is not the best quality - a bit like Frog Buttress but without the hoards of climber traffic. It is deathly cold in winter and has nice camping. In recent years several bolted areas have been put up. The Qurank crew did a big trip there last year. Have a search around on thier galleries/trip reports and you will find some good info.

Mt. Kaputar is a great climbing destination. I`ve been there twice now as well. There is a lifetime of climbing up there with everything from sport climbing to loose multi pitch adventures. You`ll be in awe of some of the huge cliffs on the way in. Euglah Rock would have to be my fav cliff up there with The Governor being a close second. If you can hook up with Anthony Brennan from Narrabri you`d be doing yourself the biggest favour and he would have a climbing partner to boot. Anthony is one of the original hardmen of the area and knows the cliffs round there like the back of his hand. He is always looking for new partners to climb with as they are a bit thin on the ground up that way.

Where can I find some info on the sport climbing areas at mount Kaputar?

There are no sports climbing areas at Kaputar, though someone has retro bolted many climbs at Lindsey Rocks. There is information on thecrag.com, but be wary of going up a route expecting for it to be fully bolted as many newer routes put up by Robin Barley are mixed.

There is another thread on this site about the contentious retro bolting.

kaputar is awesome. I have bee there a few times, once with vwills, first time we met maybe.
there is all sorts of stuff to do. It is a year round crag, climb in the sun in winter.just go. the big crater traverse is worth a trip in itself and is winter (ex rain) perfect.
