Hi, I went to Wingello yesterday and the suggest 4wd section was closed with a sign "Road Closed Dry Weather Only". I think it was the dryest I had seen the road in ever.

Wow that's makes it a big walk in then......give local Nat parks a call and ask when it will be open....to be honest its a wonder Nat park didn't put a gate there instead of down the road which is their usual MO.

Indicates it was meant to be shut until the 8th. Hopefully it opens soon. Yes a very long walk

The bottom of that hill at the start does become a mud trap..a few years back they worked on it, must be doing the same again.

It does get a little silty and the sand has built up in some areas also, the 4wd recommendation is reasonable. I moved to Canberra only a couple of years ago and Wingello is a good sandstone fix with a ridiculous range of climbing styles.

I have a 4wd but use it to putt down the tracks. I actually agree with the wet weather closures, people that intentionally drive tracks in the wet to test themselves ruin access for the majority of users. I would hate to see the area closed after such and investment. Some of the routes are gathering dust.

The road is currently gated at the big tree (8.6 km from Wingello in the pdf guide description). Right now, the road is in really good shape and has been extensively worked on with lots of new gravel, grading, etc. This adds 15 to 30 minutes to the approach depending on how fast you walk.

Is that a permanent gate or just until road reopens? Im guessing if they have bothered to install an proper gate it will remain shut from now on?

I assume just a wet weather gate as the sign on the gate reads "dry weather road only" and they have done extensive work on the road beyond the gate, which would seem kind of pointless if you are just going to permanently gate the road. But, I think it might be closed now for the rest of the winter. It's not a bad walk, and if you had a bike it would be quite quick, but it is a tad annoying to trudge up a perfectly good road at the end of the day.

The upper gate is open so you can now drive to the lower permanently closed gate just above the big steep hill. Lots of new routes at the Poo area and beyond but some need more traffic to clean off the moss and loose holds.

If going to that area...easiest access is along the top and down gully that pops you out at base of the Slabs...ie go to old bottom car park and rather than hang a right down to runged gully continue along cliff line...did have a track marked but might have gown over by now.

Now with upper gate for la Sancta better to park halfway along the road and walk straight down the hill..that should cut the trip in half.

Grown over. We found it with some difficulty but most of the cairns are gone and there is precious little to see in the way of a track. Found the old tatty rope to access the Slabs.

What's the best access for Lost Gully, C Section etc.?

Too bad the area does not seem to see that much traffic as some of the climbs are real beauties. There is free bush camping, nice ambience, what's not to like?

Access is via different road ie one to the north..in theory you could acess it going past La Sancta but be a long walk.....only one or two routes there worth the walk though TBH.
