Mt Boyce locked gate

I was out at Mt Boyce in Blackheath earlier this week and noticed that the main access gate (next to the mediation centre) was locked.

Does anyone know the story behind this? i.e. Whether it is permanent or temporary, and whether the fire trail along side the tracks is just closed to vehicle access or walk in as well?

Cheers.

Lifted off of Facebook
'Fellow climbers, the following is an update on Mt. Boyce access. Sydney Rail locked the gate at the Mt. Boyce access point, because they are going to be storing equipment behind the gate for the next number of months. Track upgrades in the form of signal upgrades are scheduled for the region. While customer service at Sydney Rail has been helpful in sharing this information, establishing direct contact with and two-way communication with the individuals responsible for the gate closure has proven elusive. We have been told only that the project manager and contractor for the project will be scheduling a public meeting some time in the future. We are sorry that we cannot provide more or better information at this time. We will keep working this issue and do our best to bring this matter to satisfactory closure. Robert, SRC, Accesss Chair'

I don't know of any updates since this was posted on the 22/12/15

Cheers, thanks for the update. Sounds like it's just a temporary thing - although surprising that there is no info or end date at the access point given the hard work that I understand has gone into negotiating and setting up these access points alongside rail corridors in the past.

Thanks for this. A friend and I were puzzled by this a couple of weeks ago. I wonder how long the Railcorp (or whatever their name is this week) works are intended to last?

If there was an answer I would not take it with a grain of salt.

So you'd completely believe it? I think you mean you would take it with a grain of salt.

Drove along the west side of the track from Blackheath a couple of months ago no problem.

Hi

I've been meaning to post something about this for a while.

The Boyce road is open again, for the moment, due to the efforts of Blackheath Area Adventure & Tourism Group, which meets at Glenella Guest House on Govetts Leap Rd once a month.

This group has been fantastic at supporting climbing in the Mts and lobbied both the Council and the Railways very strategically and effectively to have it re-opened to climbers. They have been supported really well by the new owners of Glenella, who also have climber's accommodation under the guest house. Good people, well worth supporting.

The group continues to lobby the opening of a cycling corridor from Manly to Mudgee, via the mts. and if climbers get a chance to support them it's a well-worthwhile cause.

The railways wanted to close the rail corridor totally, even for pedestrians and fence it off. Sydney Rockies access officer and some local climbers and guide groups got involved (me too) and lobbied to open it.

The access is complicated, made more so after the big landslide years ago. Getting in there without using the railway road is very difficult.

Obviously, the railways are concerned about climbers being close to the rail line, so please show discretion and great care when using the road to access the climbing areas. The meditation centre also don't like too many cars parked out the front, as it impacts on their business. Negotiations are ongoing.

There is major work planned for the signals between Blackheath and Mt Vic and the road will be closed when that starts, due to trucks etc. We're lobbying for it to be re-opened with a permanent solution after that.

The main thing is to not block the road when parking and try not to park near obvious railway gravel dumps etc, so as to not obstruct their access. And support the Blackheath Area Adventure & Tourism Group if you get a chance.

Cheers
G.

More details? Went for a quick google search and found nothing.
