Why don't you go and put in a day of debolting, rod?

But you've got a drill and a hammer.

That I do, and if I was the one removing the bolts Id probably use them. Like I said I don't care either way if they are removed or not, but obviously others do want them removed (plus NPWS want them removed.) so the ones doing the removing maybe should just step back take a breath and ensure they are using best practice, just not the fastest option.
One of the arguments is that the original bolters didn't consult the community and blindly went ahead and did it anyway...so Im giving my arm chair consulting based on what I've seen...happy to be proven wrong if end results end up being all good.
Anyway all is moot it seems until job done and we can comment on end result TBH.

I agree with a small section of what Rod had to say.
Ditch the grinders, for asthetic and safety reasons. Drill the bolts out by running 2x10mm holes next to the shaft. It's quicker and leaves only a small scar to be patched.

Agreed.
RodW's photo (from ski.com.au) gave me the shivers: sprays of glowing metal next to nylon is going to end badly.
