Does anyone have information about the Dials? We'll be in Halls Gap for Cup Weekend and I'm thinking of where I can climb that is close by. Rosea, Bundaleer are out. Anything in the Wonderland area is out. I'm not sure about the Watchtower. The Dials came to mind as a possibility. Any recent access beta would be much appreicated.

Do you just want current access beta or beta on the climbing as well?

Just in case:

The First Dial is the pick for the quality of climbs and ease of access but most of the good climbs are in the 16-20 bracket. There are 1 or 2 hard climbs which are supposed to be good if you're up to that sort of thing. The easier climbs look nasty and chossy.

If you want easier climbs, The Fourth Dial has them but the walk in is a slog.

The Second Dial is a choss pile with only 3 decent climbs - a 17 and two 20s as I recall.

Sorry, just interested in access. 16-20 bracket is what I'm looking for. Hence the idea of visiting the first dial.

Watchtower, Pastoral Buttress, Rural Rocks, and The Radiator are all open, to answer your question. Can I ask you a question? Why the hell would you want to go to Hells Crap on a long weekend? Or anytime for that matter?

Family holiday, hoping to squeeze in some climbing away from the crowds. I've never seen other climbers in the Barbican/Dials area. The Stapylton area and Arapiles will be crawling with climbers. My other idea is to head for the Vic Ranges for a day but it is further to drive and some of the quicker routes to get there are still closed I believe.

Nothing is closed in the Vic Ranges. The Asses Ears is however closed (but work is being done this
weekend to re-open the track)
